Professor’s Comments April 5, 2019

The Dow staged a nice rally yesterday gaining 167 points to close at 26,385. It was the Big Move predicted by the ‘relatively’ small change in the A-D oscillator. The NASDAQ fell 4 points while the SPX gained 6 points. Volume on the NYSE was moderate, coming in at 96 percent of its 10-day moving average. There were 93 new highs and 10 new lows.
There were NO CHANGES to the market timing indicators after yesterday’s session. The Dow, NASDAQ, SPX, and Russell 2K remain on Buy Signals.
At yesterday’s open, the Model used some of the funds previously allocated for the NASDAQ to purchase a half position (185 shares) in UWM, the positive ETF for the Russell 2K. Price paid for the shares was 69.33. About an hour later, the Model purchased another half position (another 185 shares) in UWM, to complete the full purchase. The average price paid for the 370 shares was 69.26.
The Sector Ratio remained at 21-3 positive after yesterday’s session. The Strong List was led by Real Estate, Household Products, Semiconductors, Technology, and Computers. The Weak List was led by FoodDrugs, Banks, and Media. The fact that the Sector Ratio remains strong supports the Bullish case for the intermediate trend.
Model Portfolio: The Model currently holds a full position in DDM (538 shares) and a half position (635 shares) in UCO the ETF for Crude Oil. As a result of yesterday’s purchases, the Model also holds a full position (370 shares) in UWM, the positive ETF for the Russell 2K. The remainder of the theoretical $100,000 Model Portfolio remains in cash ($36,861). The Model bought UWM yesterday mostly because the NASDAQ was overbought and the Russell represented better value.
The Model Portfolio remains profitable having gained $3,109 since inception, even though it has experienced conditions that have been less than desirable for the model.
The Model Portfolio is being shown for educational purposed only. The Buy/Sell actions in the Model Portfolio are made based on technical indicators that can and do change frequently and should NOT be considered as recommendations for trading an actual portfolio. Any gain or loss in the Model Portfolio should not be used to predict future performance of the Model.
